Mitzi, an American girl attending international school in Tokyo, discovers the mysterious Lost Property Office while searching for her friend Maki’s homework in the sprawling Tokyo subway system. Mitzi gets her own chance to become a Finder like Mr. Motomeru and his nephew Yuki, and she soon learns that there’s more to Finding than traveling through space-time! My illustrations for The Lost Property Office, a two-part young adult short story by Marji Napper in the March and April issues of Cricket magazine. It was a lot of fun to research (Tokyo subway tunnels! Japanese houses! Tokyo Station in the 1930’s!) and I’m pleased with the results. I worked on both chunks of illustrations at different times, but I tried to keep the feel and colors relatively tied-together. (I also got to contribute to my long-term goal of inserting cats into illustrations whenever possible)

ah yes ive been wanting to reblog these

I promised I’d eventually upload all of this comic, and what better day than Free Comic Book Day? :D If you get this from me at cons and stuff, you’ll still get a sample of the tea featured in the comic, or, you know. You can just buy a whole bag of it on Adagio (it’s got Earl Grey Moonlight, Chestnut, Vanilla, and Cinnamon and is pretty darn delicious.)

When Sandy Patangay left her home country of India to come to the United States, she never dreamed that she’d one day be able to bring something so special from her native culture to eager New York City consumers. After having completed her masters and begun working on Wall Street, she turned her sights away from the corporate world and began to channel her true passion - henna design - into a project that has become incredibly successful in an incredibly small amount of time. Transmuting traditional henna designs onto a whole new medium, Sandy creates beautiful cakes, cookies, and macaroons that have earned critical praise from some of the most renowned culinary experts. Thinking back on her decision to take this step in establishing her own business, she says:

So many times, I asked myself, whether this was a stupid move — walking away from a secure job to sell cakes. But now I can see I didn’t waste a single day. While I loved what I was doing on Wall Street, there’s only so much you can do to climb the corporate ladder. And how many people actually end up being the CEO? But when you follow your passion, the possibilities are endless.

this was an assignment for Sophomore Illustration; we had to make a 27” wide sequential piece from a mythology of a randomly-assigned culture.

this is a real cut-up & shortened version of the story where Thor has to pretend to be a bride in order to get his hammer back? it’s a little tough to follow, this was a really hard assignment! I had the most fun drawing Loki.

Misato Katsuragi Dreams of the Second Impact
Misato didn’t appeal to me when I watched Eva the first time, but re-watching it recently as an adult I’ve come to really like her. She seems carefree and detached, but she’s suffered greatly and struggles against many obstacles, from patriarchy to the threat of global annihilation. Also she has good taste in beer.
